The Labradoodle
Labradoodles were designed to allow a person with pet allergies to be able to have a dog. Labradors are currently the most popular dog in the United States due to their reliable temperament and trainability. Poodles are known for their intelligence, being hypo-allergenic and having a non-shed coat.There is a difference between a Labradoodle which is a mix of Labrador and Poodle and an Australian Labradoodle which has other breeds mixed in as well. Labradoodles are known for being easily trained, loyal and loving family members. They are non-aggressive but will normally bark to alert their family. They do need mental stimulation and moderate exercise. They are likely to get in trouble with destructive behaviors if not exercised, challenged and part of the family.
Labradoodles come in varying mixes based on the generation. A first generation mix of Labrador and Poodle is called an F1 Labradoodle. An F1-B is an F1 bred back to a Poodle (25% Labrador, 75% Poodle). Labradoodles can be found in various sizes; Miniature, which normally ranges from 20 to 30 pounds, Medium, which is 30 to 50 pounds, and Standard, which is typically 50 to 75 pounds. Labradoodles can be found in a wide range of colors; chalk, cream, apricot, gold, red, chocolate, cafe au lait, black, silver and blue. The coat of a Labradoodle should be 4 to 6 inches, and described as wooly and non-shed (like a Poodle), fleece which is likely non-shed (wavy or curly), or wiry with little grooming required, like a Labrador.
